The Cucuyon and the Archail pass

A hike in the hinterland of Digne-les-Bains which smells of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The Cucuyon ridgeline is 100% panoramic! Be careful, the paths are not well signposted so take a good map and GPS!

Place called La Peine

From the end of the tarmac road, follow the main path which leads to the place called “La Peine”. Then go up towards Clue de la Peine. The Clue itself is an impressive passage where large blades of rock emerge from the earth, like an immense dinosaur skeleton.

The Cheval Blanc mountain from Cucuyon

Then continue to climb steadily up to the Col de la Cine. You then have to go up a good steep slope to the summit of Cluchemet. The path then becomes very aerial since it follows the ridge line for a few kilometers. We take on the small summits while keeping our eyes wide open to the beautiful landscape before us! On the other hand, this succession of climbs and descents is rather tiring.

The Pas d’Archail cabin

At the end of the ridge, you can finish with the summit of Cucuyon if you want. You then have to go back down to the Archail cabin. I actually hiked this trail during a new year spent in this cabin. It is really very comfortable and the stove heats well, a big thank you to the shepherd who leaves it available to hikers!

Summit of Reynière in the evening

From the cabin, take the long path which goes down gently. Turn left at the ridge and follow the track which goes down to its end. There is then a rather complicated passage where you have to follow an old path which is almost no longer marked (there are no traces on the map).

After 1km we pick up a larger path which goes back down to the place called l'Hubac. Finally follow the track which goes back down to a footbridge allowing you to reach the starting point.

Photagne

I started photography in 2015 during a trip to Hawaii. Since then, I have devoted myself to landscape photography during my many mountain treks.
