A short hike to Monte Faeta in the Pisan Mountains will introduce you to the typical landscapes of these mountains. In autumn, remember to bring bags to collect chestnuts; the area is full of them!
Leave the village of Asciano, leaving your car at the small parking lot. The trail passes a spring of excellent quality water and then leaves the village. Entering the forest, you reach the Cisternone, a large water reservoir built to supply the aqueduct that carries water to Pisa.
We then climb a steeper slope amidst olive trees and oaks that leads us to the place called Mirteto. There are the ruins of an ancient church in this pretty spot lost in the middle of the hills. The path then continues its steep climb to the Passo della Conserva. Chestnut trees appear at this altitude.
There's still one last good climb before reaching the summit of Monte Faeta. You can enjoy a well-deserved picnic overlooking the plains of Pisa. Afterward, continue on to a second nearby peak, Verruchino. Then descend the mountainside between small paths and tracks. The end of the path leads to green olive groves before ending in Asciano.
