Towards La Meije. Snowshoeing across the Emparis plateau offers one of the most beautiful frontal views of La Meije—this 3,982-meter rocky peak in the Écrins massif that overlooks the Lautaret Pass. In winter, the snow-covered foreground and the dark mountain create a contrast that only this season can provide. This photo was taken at a time when the light separated the planes without flattening them.
