Thamserku at moonrise. In the Khumbu region, the nights are clear and cold—and when the moon rises behind a 6,000-meter peak, the image is breathtaking. Thamserku reaches a height of 6,608 meters. This photo was taken during the Three Passes Trek in Nepal, just as the moon had crested the ridgeline. This kind of image requires accepting the need for sleep.
